On Wednesday night, a mother of two in Nairobi's Komarock estate took her own life in a heart-wrenching incident.
According to police, Jane Mwende Nguthu, 33, hanged herself with an iron box cable after a poisonous substance she had taken failed to kill her.
Nguthu had poisoned her two children, a seven-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl, before attempting to take her own life.
The children were rescued by their neighbours and rushed to Komarock Modern Hospital, where they are currently admitted in serious condition.
Police are yet to establish the type of poison administered to the children.
Nguthu's husband reported that the couple had an altercation, but he did not suspect that his wife would resort to such extreme measures.
