Published on May 14, 2020, Nairobi — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that thirty Kenyans have succumbed to coronavirus out of 193 infected among the diaspora population.
Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo revealed during a virtual meeting with the Senate Ad hoc Committee on COVID-19 that four of those infected are in critical condition and admitted to Intensive Care Units.
Omamo cautioned that the information provided is based on voluntary registration and may not reflect the actual situation on the ground.
She listed countries where deaths have been reported, including the United States of America, United Kingdom, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, and France.
Omamo also noted that 78 Kenyans have recovered from the virus, with 88 cases still active.
The global pandemic has left 293,033 people dead and infected 4,354,545 others worldwide.
Meanwhile, in Kenya, twenty-two more people tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, raising the number of infections recorded to 737.
Dr. Rashid Aman, a Chief Administrative Secretary at the Ministry of Health, attributed the new cases to 1,516 samples tested since Tuesday.
Most of the new infections were registered in Nairobi County, followed by Mombasa at eight, Kajiado with three, and Bomet County with a single case.
