On May 14, 2020, Susan Wangui made a shocking admission to the media that her son, Derrick Ndung'u, was killed by a mob after he stole a phone.
Wangui, a mother from Nairobi, revealed that her son was a habitual thief who refused to change his ways despite her efforts to educate and support him.
She narrated how she struggled to educate her son, taking him to driving school and even offering to help him set up small businesses, but he refused.
“Huyu mtoto nimemsomesha, akamaliza kusoma hata form four. Vile alimaliza form four, nilimpeleka driving na akamaliza driving,” Wangui said.
Wangui also revealed that she had once had her son arrested and locked up by the police for theft, but he was released after three months and she paid a half-million-shilling bond for him.
“Alikaaa ndani miezi tatu, nikabembelezwa na uncles na anuties zake nimtoe na nikamtoa na bond ya half a million. Venye alitoka nimwambia wacha nikuwekee kazi lakini alikataa. Kazi yake ni kuiba. Me najua ni mwizi. Siwezi mtetea,” Wangui said.
Wangui urged youth engaging in crime to quit if they want to avoid the fate that befell her son.
