On May 10, 2020, Joy Wairuri, sister of Ben Cyco, left this world after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Her family and friends were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from Kenyans who rallied around them to raise funds for her medical treatment.
Ben Cyco, in his first public statement after her passing, expressed his gratitude to those who contributed to the fundraising campaign, which had raised Ksh 2,141,000 by May 11, 2020.
"Joy you fought well. You fought a good fight," Ben Cyco posted on social media. "I remember when cancer relapsed and I had to break the news to you, we made a promise to each other that we would fight all the way to the end, and you did sis, you fought HARD."
CITAM Valley Road, the church where Joy was a member, sent out a thanksgiving message to Kenyans for their support, quoting Joy's own words: "Wow. I didn’t expect it. I am really honored and feel loved (and) blessed. I didn’t see that coming."
Throughout the comment section, Joy's friends and acquaintances attested to her bubbly personality and pure intentions.
May Joy rest in peace.
