Published on May 14, 2020, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has intensified calls for the resignation of Nairobi Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi.

According to Sonko's spokesperson, Ben Mulwa, the Speaker is fighting the creation and operationalisation of the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), and working with a few individuals in the National Government to blame the governor and embarrass the President.

Elachi, however, maintained that she followed the law throughout the approval process of the bill into an Act, despite the Government Printer de-gazetting the Nairobi County Supplementary Appropriations Act, 2020, on the advice of the Attorney General.

Supporting the Solicitor General Kennedy Ogeto's decision to annul the Act, Sonko praised the swift action taken to curb agents against the Deed of Transfer process.
