Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to step down in 2022, after the end of his 10-year leadership term.
Speaking on Milele FM during a breakfast show, Khalwale advised the head of state to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors, the late Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki, who gave up power willingly when their tenures ended.
”You will have led us for ten years. Be humble and do not listen to the likes of Atwoli and Kalonzo. Just pack your bags and go,” Khalwale said, urging Uhuru to be humble and not listen to those who want him to stay in power.
He added that Uhuru will live a lavish life after retirement, just like Kibaki, and that he will be accorded an honourable send off when he passes away, just like the late Moi was in February.
On Francis Atwoli's declaration that Uhuru would remain in power after 2022, Khalwale noted that younger leaders, such as former US president Barrack Obama, happily handed over leadership of their countries when their terms ended.
