Founded in 2011 by Nancy Amunga, Dana Communications Limited has established itself as a leading player in the Kenyan communications and transport sector.
According to Amunga, her company's success can be attributed to her consistent approach to business. 'I have learned that to make it in business, you must first know why you want to get into business and what problem your enterprise will solve,' she notes.
Amunga's entrepreneurial journey began when she experienced the frustration of waiting over a week for a television she had ordered online to be delivered. This experience sparked the idea for Dana Communications, which aimed to provide faster and more reliable delivery services.
Today, Amunga's company has expanded its services to include communications, and she attributes her success to her ability to reinvest her wealth in new business opportunities. 'There's no millionaire who relies on one line of business,' she emphasizes.
However, Amunga also acknowledges the importance of learning from her mistakes. She notes that buying on impulse has been a weakness of hers in the past, and advises against taking business loans without a clear plan for how the funds will be used.
Looking back, Amunga wishes she had taken her time to think before launching her business. 'I got swindled because I was too excited to launch,' she recalls. Nevertheless, she remains optimistic about the potential for young women in business, emphasizing the importance of surrounding oneself with the right people and network.
