Avril, a well-known Kenyan artist, has been at the center of a heated debate on social media after a fan criticized her for not acknowledging TikToker Azziad's contribution to her song's success.
According to reports, the fan, Samantha, had been criticizing Kenyan artists for not appreciating the contributions of social media influencers like Azziad, who had helped increase the views of Femi One and Mejja's song, 'Utawezana.'
Avril had posted a video of Azziad jamming to her song, 'Hello Baby,' featuring Ommy Dimpoz, which sparked a heated exchange between Samantha and Avril.
On May 14, 2020, Avril replied to Samantha's comment, saying, 'Would be lovely to make your point and not feel the need to insult anyone in the process.' However, Samantha continued to justify her actions, saying that she was simply stating the truth and that Avril's music was not being appreciated by the public.
Avril, however, was not having it, and responded with a fiery comment, saying, 'Yo! I wasn’t being nice cause I can’t be equally rude so keep your English lessons and scoot back on over to your page. You point has been made now go sleep.'
Most of the people in the comment section were in support of Avril, with many saying that the song had been trending long before Azziad's contribution.
