When it comes to interior decor and styling, cutlery and crockery are often overlooked elements that can make or break the look of your dining room. A well-chosen dinnerware set can elevate the ambiance of your dining space, while a mismatched or low-quality set can detract from it.

So, what should you consider when styling your dinnerware? First and foremost, the material of your dinnerware is crucial. All dinnerware is made from ceramic, but beneath that lies a subcategory of porcelain, stoneware, earthenware, and bone china. Porcelain is the most familiar and commonly used material, known for its smooth, white finish and glazed appearance.

However, porcelain is prone to hairline fractures and spoon marks, while stoneware can be uncomfortably heavy to hold and easily chips. Bone china, on the other hand, is a more delicate and posh form of porcelain, often used in fine dining restaurants. Earthenware, meanwhile, appears to be moulded by hand from unrefined clay and is rarely glazed.

When it comes to choosing a dinnerware set, consider the type of colour and artwork you prefer. Solid colours like cloud white, midnight black, navy blue, and turquoise are classic and versatile, while dinnerware with artwork can add a touch of personality to your table setting. However, dinnerware with strong solid shades of colours tends to outlive trends and make food look more delicious.

It's also essential to consider the utility and daily use of your dinnerware. Ask yourself questions like: do the mugs begin to get coffee and tea stains after a few months of use? Do the items chip as they are drying on the dish rack, or after being knocked against a surface? Are the pieces microwave safe? Can you comfortably hold a mug that has hot cocoa, or will it scald you?

Ultimately, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and the best way to determine the quality of your dinnerware is through personal experience. So, go for dinnerware that can withstand daily use and give you value for your money.
