May 13, 2020 - In a move to expand its focus on the African continent, Netflix has unveiled a new collection of African content, 'Made In Africa', to celebrate the diversity of the diaspora during Africa Month.

As part of its efforts to create more original content based on the continent, Netflix's Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, had earlier this year embarked on a multi-country trip across Africa to engage with local creators. He expressed his excitement about the opportunity to work with talented creators in Nigeria, saying, 'I've learned so much in the very short time we've been here…(and) I've just been thrilled to be surrounded by some of the most creative and successful creators in the world here in Nigeria, telling your stories to the world…And that's the thing that's most exciting about…what we're doing in Africa, and what we're doing in Nigeria.'

The 'Made In Africa' collection features a range of titles, including Netflix originals like South Africa's 'Queen Sono' starring Pearl Thusi and Senegal's critically acclaimed 'Atlantics', as well as previously acquired films like Nigeria's 'Chief Daddy' and the Malawian-based film 'The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind'. The collection also includes documentaries of real-life stories on the continent.

Originally created by the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, Africa Month is a celebration of continental unity and nation building among the African diaspora through unity and freedom from oppression.
