As the Bundesliga resumes after a two-month coronavirus-enforced shutdown, Bayern Munich are on track to win their eighth consecutive title. However, Borussia Dortmund, led by the prolific Erling Braut Haaland, are the main challengers.
Haaland has scored nine goals in eight Bundesliga games since joining Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg. His arrival has been a significant factor in the team's resurgence, with Dortmund winning seven out of eight league games after his arrival.
Despite the challenges of playing behind closed doors, Dortmund's chief executive, Hans-Joachim Watzke, acknowledged the difficulty of relying on the passion of their supporters to drive the team forward.
Bayern, on the other hand, have been busy since their last game, with coach Hansi Flick signing a new contract until 2023. Key players Thomas Mueller and Alphonso Davies have also extended their contracts, while former striker Miroslav Klose has joined as assistant coach.
With Robert Lewandowski scoring 25 goals in 23 games, Bayern are formidable opponents. However, Dortmund's chances of catching Bayern will depend on their ability to overcome the challenges of playing without fans and their upcoming matches against Leipzig and Bayern.
