As of May 13, 2020, Kenya has seen a significant rise in COVID-19 recoveries, with 22 patients being discharged from hospital. This brings the total number of recoveries in the country to 281.
Health Ministry's Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman attributed the recoveries to the dedication and commitment of healthcare workers. 'We thank and honor our health care workers for their dedication and commitment in service delivery for us to achieve these recoveries,' he said.
However, the country has also seen a rise in new cases, with 22 people testing positive for COVID-19. This brings the total number of infections to 737, according to authorities.
The new cases are from 1,516 samples tested since Tuesday, with 21 being Kenyans and one being a Ugandan. Nairobi County produced the majority of the cases, followed by Mombasa, Kajiado, and Bomet County.
The number of people who have succumbed to coronavirus in Kenya has shot up to 40, with three new fatalities recorded in Nairobi and one in Mombasa.
Dr. Aman cautioned that the situation would worsen if Kenyans stop being compliant with containment measures. 'It disturbs us when we see lives seemingly appearing to be normal back to the times at the pre-COVID time. As we have said before, this are not normal times and we really need to observe the containment measures,' he said.
