On May 12, 2020, Governor Sospeter Ojaamong of Busia County received a Sh3.2 million donation from the Fred Hollows Foundation Kenya to aid in the fight against COVID-19.
The donation includes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), infrared thermoguns, knapsack sprayers, foldable stretchers, oxygen concentrators, and digital blood pressure machines.
According to Governor Ojaamong, the equipment will be distributed to various health facilities in the county, including sub-county hospitals and health centers.
"The team will sit down and agree the best way to distribute the equipment to a number of health facilities in the county," said Governor Ojaamong.
Busia County has so far recorded two cases of COVID-19, and the county government is urging locals to observe general hygiene and follow directives from the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) to prevent the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, testing for employees working in eateries has been suspended due to a lack of testing kits, but the county hopes to resume testing once the necessary reagents and kits are delivered by the Ministry of Health.
