Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has expressed concern over the rising death toll from floods across the country, which has now reached 237.
Following an aerial survey of Lake Naivasha on Wednesday, Mr Wamalwa warned that more rains are expected in May and June, which could lead to further displacement.
"Several rivers are swollen and likely to burst their banks, displacing those living in the edges," Mr Wamalwa said.
He noted that water levels in Lake Naivasha have risen to unprecedented levels, affecting nearly 18,000 people who live in the Kihoto estate.
Mr Wamalwa also cited Lake Victoria, whose water level is at its highest since 1958, and promised humanitarian assistance to affected families and government support.
Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko, who accompanied Mr Wamalwa, regretted the encroachment of riparian land in Nakuru, which has led to the destruction of catchment areas and increased water velocity.
