Kenya Confirms 22 New COVID-19 Cases, Total Rises to 737

On May 13, 2020, Kenya confirmed 22 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 737 as four more patients succumbed to the disease.

According to Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman, 21 of the confirmed cases were Kenyans and one was a Ugandan.

Out of the 22 cases, 17 were male and 5 were female, with the youngest being 20 years old and the oldest 81 years old.

Dr. Rashid Aman stated, "We have in the last 24 hours tested 1,516 samples, bringing the total of samples tested so far to 35,432. Out of the samples tested today, 22 people have tested positive for coronavirus. Out of the same samples, 25 individuals who are truck drivers from Tanzania also tested positive at the Namanga border and were referred back to Tanzania."

The distribution of cases by county is as follows: Nairobi (10), Mombasa (8), Kajiado (3), and Bomet (1). Bomet becomes the latest county to record a COVID-19 case.

The total number of counties in the country that have reported cases has now risen to 20.

Dr. Rashid Aman also announced that 22 patients have been discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of recoveries to 281.

He also announced the death of four patients, two in Nairobi, one in Mombasa, and one in Bomet.
