Published on May 13, 2020, a day when four suspected thugs were shot dead by police in Komarock, Nairobi.

According to reports, the suspects were being pursued by police along Outering road when they opened fire on the officers. The police responded by gunning down the assailants, who were driving in a Toyota Cienta.

One police officer was left in critical condition after suffering gunshot wounds during the exchange and was rushed to Mama Lucy hospital for further treatment.

The incident occurred at the Total petrol station, attracting a crowd despite the social distancing rule. The area has seen a rise in criminal activities during the coronavirus period, with criminals taking advantage of the curfew to run their operations.

Residents in the area have been reporting cases of burglaries and robberies, with some shops being broken into at night. The situation has raised eyebrows, with some residents questioning whether the police could have had a hand in the incidents.

According to the National Council of Administrative Justice, rape cases have been on the rise, accounting for over 35 per cent of the total reported cases. This is a significant increase from the usual two to five per cent of crimes reported annually.
