Speaking to the Italian Senate, Spadafora expressed his concerns about the intense debate surrounding the resumption of the championship, describing it as 'excessive.'
He emphasized that any decision to resume the championship would be based on the implementation of appropriate measures and protocols to ensure complete safety for all involved.
Italian teams have been undergoing individual training since May 4, with group sessions set to begin on May 18 under strict conditions.
Spadafora's comments come as the country grapples with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has resulted in nearly 31,000 deaths.
He used the analogy of a supermarket to illustrate the challenges of maintaining social distancing in football, pointing out that players are required to run and mark each other, making it impossible to maintain a safe distance.
