Three Senior Officials Arrested Over Covid-19 Funds

On May 6, 2020, Kilifi County unveiled a coronavirus medical complex, which was widely praised for its efforts in combating the Covid-19 pandemic in the county.

However, just days after the launch, detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested three senior Kilifi County officials over their failure to produce documentation on the newly launched facility.

The arrested officials include Kilifi County Secretary Anorld Mkare, Chief Officer for Public Health, Alio Ibrahim, and his Medical Services counterpart, Bilal Mazoya.

The medical complex boasts of a well-equipped medical section, a modern doctors' residence, and a cancer centre that will offer chemotherapy and radiotherapy services to cancer patients in the county and beyond.

The facility was designed to provide a two-week quarantine for medical practitioners working in the hospital, but the officials' failure to provide documentation has raised concerns about the management of Covid-19 funds in the county.
