On May 13, 2020, Embu County County Commissioner Abdulahi Galgalo presented a reward of Sh10,000 and foodstuffs to Samson Kariuki's wife, Catherine Gitiri, in Embu town.

Samson Kariuki, a driver with Neno Sacco, had turned himself in to the authorities after realizing that some of his passengers had sneaked from Kilifi County, which was affected by the Covid-19 disease.

According to Commissioner Galgalo, Kariuki had overheard two passengers discussing their origin on the phone and had risked exposing his family to the virus by reporting them to the authorities.

"We laud the bold steps Kariuki took to curb the spread of the disease," Commissioner Galgalo said. "We also appreciate the residents of Embu County for being vigilant with strangers entering the county."

As of May 13, 2020, 24 people, including Kariuki and his eight passengers, were quarantined at the Kenya School of Government, Embu Campus, following contact tracing by health officials.
