On May 13, 2020, Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok made headlines by nominating Stella Langat as the county secretary, a move seen as part of his efforts to clean up his office.

Langat, a former deputy county commissioner in Awasi, Kisumu county, will take over from Evelyn Rono, who was sacked by Barchok on April 1, 2020.

According to sources, Barchok is targeting staff who undermined him during his tenure as deputy governor under the late Joyce Laboso.

Langat's nomination was approved by the county assembly and she was sworn in on the same day, despite a court order quashing Rono's removal.

The Employment and Labour Relation Court in Nairobi had issued conservatory orders pending the hearing of a judicial review filed by Rono.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Barchok wished Langat well, saying he was looking forward to better service delivery.

“Personally, I am hoping for better services and looking forward for your cooperation so that we can take our county to a better level,” Barchok said.
