Published on May 13, 2020, a report by AfroChampions has revealed that Rwanda is the most committed country in the operationalisation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The AfCFTA Year Zero report shows that the average level of commitment among the 55 surveyed countries is 44.48 per cent, while implementation readiness stands at 49.15 per cent.

More than half of the countries have yet to ratify the AfCFTA, despite the initial enthusiasm and speedy ratification process that launched the agreement.

Almost all countries are lagging behind in completing their National AfCFTA Implementation Strategies, which were scheduled to start in July.

The report ranks East and West African countries as the most committed in operationalising the AfCFTA, with Rwanda topping the list at 83.93 per cent, followed closely by Mali and Togo.

Other East African countries that made it to the top 10 include Uganda, Kenya, and Djibouti, while the West African countries of Ghana, Niger, and Senegal also feature prominently.
