On April 28, Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) wrote to Colnet Company, informing them that their three-year contract worth Sh257 million for cleaning services at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi would be suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The letter, signed by KAA acting managing director Alex Gitari, stated that the contract would remain suspended until normalcy was restored at the airport.
However, Colnet Company has disputed KAA's decision, arguing that the contract was suspended unprocedurally and that there is no clause in the contract that allows for such a move.
Colnet's lawyers have threatened to take KAA to court over the matter, citing clause 21 of the contract, which they claim has been invoked by KAA without proper procedure.
According to the contract, Colnet was responsible for providing cleaning services for general areas and toilets at terminals 1B, C, D, as well as in cargo freight terminal, old training school cargo village, and M-station.
