Man Succumbs to Covid-19 in Bomet

On May 4, 2020, a 55-year-old man from Kagawet village in Itembe Location, Bomet County, was admitted to Longisa County Referral Hospital with symptoms of Covid-19 and diabetes.

According to a police report, the patient had travelled from Nairobi on the same date of admission, and samples taken to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) Kisumu nearly a week later tested positive for Covid-19.

The patient died the following day, making him the first confirmed Covid-19 case and death in Bomet County.

As a result, 16 family members who came into contact with the deceased have been placed under quarantine at Kaplong Girls High School in Sotik.

The body of the deceased is still lying at Longisa Hospital mortuary.
