It's been seven years since the world was introduced to Moses Gift Osinya, a young boy who showed remarkable courage in the face of tragedy. In 2014, Gift's baby brother, Satrine Osinya, was shot in the head during an attack by armed militants on a church in Mombasa, which left up to six people dead, including their mother, Veronica Osinya.
Gift's photo, taken at the time, showed him cuddling his injured brother with a tear-stained face and a glint of resolve in his eyes. The image touched the hearts of many, and Satrine received medical attention to remove the bullet from his head.
Fast forward to 2016, Gift had passed his KCPE exams with flying colors and was admitted to Lenana School. Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, who had adopted Gift and Satrine, took to social media to congratulate his adopted son on his academic achievement.
"I wish to take this opportunity on behalf of my lovely wife and on my own behalf to congratulate my adopted son Gift Osinya, the boy who rescued his younger brother Satrine during the terror attack in which their mother was brutally murdered," Sonko wrote on his Facebook page.
He added, "We pray that the Almighty God continue to bless him and may this be the beginning of a successful academic journey." Sonko also awarded Gift Sh2 million in an educational account for his exemplary performance.
Today, Gift is all grown, and his story is a testament to the power of resilience and determination. Here are some photos of the stylish son of the governor.
