On May 12, 2020, a significant development took place in the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) saga. Jacinta Wanjiku, the wife of KPA's general manager for finance, Patrick Wambugu, was charged with conspiracy to unlawfully acquire Sh215 million in the agency's property.

According to the prosecution, Ms. Wanjiku, who is the managing director of Nyali Capital Ltd, received Sh215 million from KPA between October 2014 and March 2017. The prosecution alleges that she had reason to believe the money was acquired through corrupt conduct.

Ms. Wanjiku denied any wrongdoing and was released on a Sh5 million bond with a surety of similar amount or an alternative of Sh2 million cash bail.

Her husband, Patrick Wambugu, and their colleague Isaac Obunga, an accountant, had been charged with abuse of office in a separate case.
