As Kenyans seek alternative ways to sustain their energy needs amid power blackouts associated with the long rains, d.light Solar is cautioning the public against unscrupulous merchants selling counterfeit solar products.

According to Alex Olum, Managing Director (Kenya) at d.light Solar, the company has received increased reports of counterfeit products, prompting their concern.

With the increased demand for power during the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly with working from home and children staying at home longer, Olum emphasized the importance of getting genuine solar products, stating, “can never be overemphasized”.

d.light Solar has taken steps to make their products more accessible, including reducing the price of their S3 reading light to Sh450 from Sh725, and offering flexible payment plans to ensure customers are not inconvenienced by unpredictable power supply.

Paul Mumo, national Sales Director at d.light Solar, added that the company has all its shops open and teams available to offer support around the clock, as they have been listed as an essential service.

“We advise that Kenyans do not fall for greedy people who want to make quick money by selling them counterfeits in the name of genuine products,” Olum warned, urging customers to only contact d.light Solar through their contact numbers or visit one of their 204 service centers across the country.
