On May 11, 2020, Jubilee Party's Parliamentary Group held a meeting at State House, which led to the ejection of Ex-Senate Majority Leader Kipchuma Murkomen and his Nakuru counterpart Susan Kihika from their positions.
According to the High Court, the matter was certified as urgent, and the respondents were required to file their response within 24 hours. The case is set to be heard on May 14, 2020.
Murkomen and Kihika, who are allied to Deputy President William Ruto, claim that their ejection was not in line with the Standing Orders, which require more than half of the senators to vote for their removal.
They also alleged that apart from them, 20 other 'tanga tanga' senators were not served with a formal invitation to the PG meeting.
During Senate proceedings on May 12, 2020, Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka verified the changes, which prompted Murkomen to express his dissatisfaction, stating that he was under duress.
"I want to say to President Uhuru Kenyatta; now, therefore, deliver for the people of Kenya, Murkomen is out of the way. If I was your stumbling block, deliver for the people of Kenya," Murkomen said.
