On May 12, 2020, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted a raid at Mac's Pharmaceuticals Ltd in Nairobi, arresting the company's director, Mr Khuram Chaudri, and two managers, Nadeem Janjua and Khumar Upendra.

The arrest came after concerns were raised that the company was violating a March 12, 2020, order by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) that barred all companies in the country from producing drugs for a period of 12 months.

According to the DCI, the company was found to be operating in contempt of the PPB order and the presidential state curfew, with employees working overnight from 6pm to 5am.

The DCI also impounded 150 boxes of Cofrid tablets and 117 tons of Fenamine tablets, and 19 employees will be charged for breaching presidential orders.
