Kenya's Foreign Affairs Ministry Supports Health Workers in COVID-19 Fight

On May 12, 2020, Kenya's Ministry of Foreign Affairs donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to health workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nairobi.

The donation included 300,000 gloves, 170 medical shoes, 300 medical gowns, and 1,500 goggles, as well as 85,000 ordinary face masks and 3,000 surgical masks from Kenya's embassy in Beijing.

Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Kamau Macharia presented the donations during the Ministry of Health's daily update on COVID-19, saying, 'We have worked with you in a very dedicated way since the beginning of this pandemic. We have come to show our solidarity to thank you and through you to the minister of health himself and all who are under this ministry for the exemplary work that you are doing that has given many Kenyans comfort during this pandemic.'

Kenya has so far tested 33,916 samples, with 15 new cases reported on Tuesday, bringing the total number of positive cases to 715. The new cases include seven from Mombasa, three from Migori, two from Wajir, and one each from Nairobi, Machakos, and Kiambu.

Eight more patients have been discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 259.
