On May 2, 2020, news of Tecra Wangari Muigai's passing sent shockwaves through the nation. The late Tecra was the last-born daughter of Mr Joseph Karanja, Chairman of Keroche Breweries, and Mrs Tabitha Karanja, CEO of Keroche Breweries.
According to her obituary, Tecra's final resting place will be in Naivasha, and her interment will be held in a private family ceremony. The family expressed gratitude to friends and well-wishers for their condolences, stating, 'The Family of Tecra wishes to thank friends from far and wide for the deep outpouring of heartfelt condolences. Tecra’s interment will be held at a private family ceremony.'
Tecra was a passionate advocate for equal opportunities and a strong supporter of her country, Kenya. Her family described her as a dedicated individual who always put the needs of others before her own.
Ben Pol, a Tanzanian musician and Tecra's sister Anerlisa Muigai's partner, is a familiar name among the family members. The obituary also confirmed reports that Anerlisa and Ben Pol are married.
Following Tecra's death, her boyfriend Omar Lali was arrested and remains in police custody as detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her passing. Tecra was living with Lali in a private residence in Lamu at the time of her death, where she fell from a staircase and sustained injuries. She later succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
