As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, Jumia, Africa's leading e-commerce platform, and Mastercard have joined forces to encourage the use of cashless payments. The partnership aims to provide a safer way for people to pay for essential products, reducing the risk of human-to-human contact.
Through this initiative, consumers who purchase essential products using their Mastercard on the Jumia platform will receive up to a 10 per cent discount on their order. This promotion is available in five countries, including Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt, Côte d'Ivoire, and Ghana.
According to Jumia Kenya CEO, Sam Chappatte, the partnership is committed to keeping customers safe during this period. 'We are committed to keep customers safe over this period. Through this campaign Mastercard is offering our customers a strong incentive to use cashless payments, which saves them money and keeps them safe by avoiding cash,' he said.
Commenting on the partnership, Raghav Prasad, Division President, Sub-Saharan Africa, Mastercard, stated: 'Our mission at Mastercard is to connect and power up a world beyond cash that benefits everyone, everywhere through transactions that are safe, simple, smart, and accessible.'
Consumers in these five markets can take advantage of this promotional offer by logging on to the Jumia platform, shopping, and paying for their essential goods using their Mastercard. They will then receive up to a 10 per cent discount on their order.
