On May 9, 2020, the world of journalism lost a dedicated and kind-hearted individual, Zipporah Njeri Nyambura, a 40-year-old Kenyan journalist based in Germany. She succumbed to cancer while undergoing treatment at a Bonn hospital.
Deutsche Welle (DW), the German public international broadcaster where Nyambura worked as a radio host and editor, announced her passing in a statement.
“DW’s Africa Service is extremely sad to announce the passing of radio host and editor Zipporah Nyambura. Her sudden death leaves a huge void in the entire DW family. Zipporah died of cancer on Saturday, May 9, aged 40. Our deepest condolences to her husband, her 10-year-old son, and her family in Kenya. May her beautiful soul rest in eternal peace,” DW said.
Nyambura had lived in Germany with her family for a decade after joining DW in 2009 as an intern. She had previously worked as a sports reporter at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
Her colleagues and friends remembered her as a kind and humble soul, who touched their hearts in a special way. A livestream memorial service was held on social media, where many eulogised her as a wonderful and lovely colleague.
