On May 12, 2020, British Athletics announced the cancellation of the London Diamond League meeting, originally scheduled for early July, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The London Stadium, which hosted the 2012 Olympics, was set to host the Anniversary Games on July 4-5.

UK Athletics chief Joanna Coates expressed disappointment over the cancellation, stating, "We are hugely disappointed to confirm the cancellation of one of the flagship events of the global athletics calendar."

However, she emphasized the importance of prioritizing the safety of the athletics community, saying, "But we must place the safety of the entire athletics family at the forefront of every decision we make during these unprecedented times and ensure we are following government advice."

The Diamond League season, which was set to begin in Doha on April 17, has been severely impacted by the pandemic, with the first six events suspended.

Although the first meeting is now scheduled to take place in Oslo on June 11 in a reduced form, events in Paris and Lausanne have also been suspended.
