On May 10, 2020, eight residents of Suba Sub-county in Homa Bay County sneaked out of the country to attend a funeral in Tanzania. The group, which included six members of the same family from Pudo village in Kiabuya Sub-location and a motorcyclist who carried them, was later arrested and quarantined at Homa Bay KMTC.
According to Suba Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Maina, all eight individuals failed to report their travel history to their local chiefs, prompting health and security officers to round them up. The eighth person had traveled on personal business.
Health and security officers are now looking for another family believed to have sneaked into the country from Tanzania.
