On May 12, 2020, the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal handed a significant victory to Deputy President William Ruto's allies, suspending the Jubilee-Kanu post-election coalition deal.

As a result, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika remain as Majority Leader and Majority Whip, respectively.

West Pokot Senator Samwel Poghisio had been elected as the Majority Leader in a Jubilee parliamentary group meeting, but the tribunal's ruling has effectively nullified this decision.

According to the tribunal, any action taken based on the coalition agreement is 'null and void and of no effect.'

Senator Kihika had previously protested the changes made at State House, stating that the required number of senators was not present and that no vote was taken to confirm the changes.

She argued that the Standing Order 19 was not followed, and that the removal of the Majority Leader and Majority Whip was not done in accordance with the rules.
