On a Saturday, Governor Samuel Tunai distributed food at Sekenani Girls Secondary School. The event highlighted the struggles of locals who rely on tourism in the Masai Mara Game Reserve.
According to Governor Tunai, who is also the Tourism/Natural Resources chairman at the Council of Governors, hotels and tented camps that fail to pay their employees during the pandemic may face closure once business resumes.
Speaking at Sekenani Girls Secondary School, Governor Tunai noted that locals who depend on tourism are now living in squalor. He cited the example of local Maasai women who are struggling to make ends meet.
As of the publication date of May 12, 2020, over 5,000 families living around the Masai Mara Park were in need of relief food.
