Victoria Rubadiri: A Single Mother's Story

At just 18 years old, celebrated Kenyan journalist Victoria Rubadiri became a mother, forcing her to confront and challenge societal stereotypes about single parenthood.

As a young mother, Rubadiri had to navigate the challenges of single parenting, including the stigma associated with being a 'typical single mom.'

In a recent interview, Rubadiri revealed that she made a conscious decision to let go of this stereotype, not for the sake of others, but for her own mental sanity.

She explained, 'You know a lot of times, the first thing that kind of jumps into someone's mind could be a thing, or a lifestyle – my social life etc. And I think for me because I got pregnant young and I fell into the stereotypical definition of a single young mom. For me, what I had to let go of, was that tag… of 'typical single mum.'

By letting go of this stereotype, Rubadiri was able to redefine herself and make choices that would shape her life and identity.

Today, Rubadiri is a proud mother to a 15-year-old daughter, who she describes as a 'mini-me' who is 'more than holding her own.'

On Mother's Day, Rubadiri took to social media to express her gratitude to her mother and daughter, saying, 'Three generations right here. The woman who gave me life, shaped it and even to this day guides it. My mini-me who is more than holding her own at 15 years old. I'm so proud to call them mine. Here's to motherhood, love and life. Happy Mother's Day.'
