On April 28, 2020, Beyond Zero Coordinator Ms Angella Langat presented a donation of assorted food and non-food items to Nyumbani Children's Home, a charitable institution that cares for vulnerable children in Kenya.
The donation, which included bags of beans, Uji mix flour, maize flour, bags of sugar, cartons of cooking oil, boxes of long-life milk, and face masks, was part of Beyond Zero's contribution to the national fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
Nyumbani Children's Home Executive Director Sister Mary Owen expressed gratitude for the donation, stating that it had come at the right time and would boost the institution's efforts to provide a dignified life to the vulnerable children.
'I want to thank Her Excellency First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and Beyond Zero for the food support during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are not only grateful for the food donation but also for knowing that you think about us and the children we care for,' Sister Mary Owen said.
The Nyumbani Children's Home, which was founded 28 years ago, currently cares for 83 orphans. The institution also runs a community-based programme that caters for 14,220 children mostly from Nairobi's informal settlements, and has established the Nyumbani Village in Kitui, which takes care of 950 vulnerable children.
