Published on May 12, 2020, Tecno's new Spark series device, the Tecno Spark 5, has been making waves in the market with its impressive features and design.

One of the first things that caught our attention was the device's weight. Unlike its predecessor, the Spark 4, which was extremely light, the Spark 5 has a more substantial feel to it. This added weight makes handling the device easier, and we appreciate the change.

The design of the Spark 5 has also undergone a significant transformation. Gone is the 'Dot Notch' design, replaced by the 'Dot-In' design, which features a punch hole in the display to accommodate the 8-megapixel front-facing camera. This design change is more in line with 2020 expectations and looks sleek.

At the back of the device, the gradient color scheme is a welcome change, and the four camera sensors, including a 13-megapixel main shooter, add a new look to the device's back. The camera bump is not as pronounced as we expected, and the device doesn't wobble on the table.

One of the things that might raise some eyebrows is the use of a microUSB port for charging. While this might not be a deal-breaker for many, it's something to note.

When it comes to performance, Tecno has kept things relatively the same as the Spark 4. The memory, storage space, and chipset used are all the same. However, with the changes to the custom overlay, HiOS, and the advantages of Android 10, any shortcomings of the hardware are countered.

As expected, the bigger battery unit means even longer battery life. We've been averaging over 8 hours of screen-on-time for at least a day and a half of our typical phone usage.
