On March 14, the government banned sports activities and public gatherings to contain the spread of COVID-19, forcing Marafiki FC players to stay home for nearly two months.

Board members of the club, led by secretary-general Paul Castel Njoroge, decided to contribute and assist the players to survive during this difficult time.

On Sunday, Njoroge addressed the players at St Mary's Boys High School grounds in Nyeri, commending them for adhering to the government's directive to stay at home.

"We acknowledge that we are living in difficult times due to the coronavirus pandemic, and we know it is even harder for our players who have nothing else to do," Njoroge said.

Twenty-two players received a package of foodstuff that can last a month, as well as face masks and sanitizers to maintain personal hygiene.

The board members also visited players at their homes in Majengo Slums and Wamagana Village, urging them to lead healthy lifestyles and observe health advisories from the government.

Club captain Peter Buteta expressed gratitude for the donation, stating that any little help the players receive will go a long way, especially considering that each player represents a whole family.

Coach James Kabuga thanked the board members for their kind gesture, terming it noble and timely.
