Published on May 12, 2020, AFC Leopards, a Kenyan Premier League side, is on a mission to achieve financial independence through a membership drive.

The club has already registered 1,407 fully registered members by the close of April and is targeting to reach at least 10,000 members by the end of this year.

According to Dan Shikanda, the team's chairman, the club is relying on the funds generated from membership registration to meet some of its basic needs after the exit of SportPesa, its main sponsor.

"Having registered members is the future of community clubs as far as sustainability is concerned and we are very thankful for 1407 fully registered members we have. They have come in very handy especially after we lost our sponsor," Shikanda told Nation Sport.

Registered members enjoy subsidised rates for merchandise and reduced stadium entry fees, and the club is working on introducing more benefits for its loyal members.
