Atalanta teenage midfielder Andrea Rinaldi died on Monday, May 11, 2020, at the age of 19, after suffering a brain aneurysm three days prior.

He became ill on Friday while training at his home in Como, in the north of Italy, and passed away in hospital in Varese.

Rinaldi joined Atalanta's youth system at the age of 13 and played through to the under-19 side, winning an under-17 Scudetto and Italian Super Cup with the club.

He was on loan this season to fourth-tier Serie D side Legnano, just outside Milan, where he was described as a 'golden boy' by Legnano president Giovanni Munafo.

'A sudden and shocking tragedy, impossible even to imagine,' Munafo said.

Atalanta also paid tribute to the teenager, saying, 'Just as on the pitch you were always the last to surrender, this time too you fought with all your might not to fly away too soon.'

President Antonio Percassi and the entire Atalanta family sent their heartfelt sympathy to Andrea Rinaldi's family members and AC Legnano.
