On May 11, 2020, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi took to Twitter to mock Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen following his ouster as the Majority Leader in the Senate.

According to Ngunyi, the principle of the house of Gema is 'Kula Ruto, Kura Uhuru' (Eat from Ruto and vote for Uhuru), implying that politicians are motivated by self-interest.

He also stated, 'You cannot buy a Kikuyu. You can only rent one,' suggesting that politicians may be seen as temporary allies.

Responding to Murkomen's ouster, Ngunyi tweeted, 'To my friend Murkomen, Pole Sana. I will pray for you. Now you have enough time to dry your greenhorns.'

These comments come after the Jubilee Senate Parliamentary Group, chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta, proposed changes in the top Senate positions, including the replacement of Murkomen with West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio as the Senate Majority Leader.
