On May 11, 2020, the High Court in Kenya certified as urgent a matter involving the election of Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina as chair of the County Public Accounts and Investments Committee in the Senate.

The court's decision temporarily bars the removal of Senator Ole Kina from the position, as well as the nomination of a new chairman.

According to reports, there has been a standoff between Senator Ole Kina and his party, ODM, over control of the committee chair.

On May 4, 2020, Senator Ole Kina was elected the committee's chair after garnering five votes against his rival, Sam Ongeri (Kisii Senator), who received four votes.

However, his win was short-lived as Siaya Senator James Orengo moved to withdraw the party's membership from the committee.

Senator Orengo also notified the Senate Speaker, Kenneth Lusaka, of the discharge and removal of Senator Ole Kina from the Senate Business Committee, citing Senate Standing Order 190.

Senator Ole Kina defiantly continued to chair committee meetings, but the party eventually de-whipped him from the chair of the committee.
