Nairobi Water Crisis: Agency Embarks on Repair Works ¶

The Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) has commenced assessment and repair works on the damaged Sasumua-Kabete pipeline, which supplies 61 million litres of water to Nairobi daily.
The pipeline was severely damaged by a massive landslide in the Aberdare Ranges, affecting water supply to the upper side of Nairobi County.
According to AWWDA, approximately 600 metres of the pipeline was damaged, and accessing the site has been challenging due to multiple landslides and damaged access roads.
AWWDA, in conjunction with the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC), has mobilized a team and resources to undertake remedial works, including the construction of an access road and emergency repair works to restore water supply.
“We ask for patience as we work towards reinstating water supply to the affected areas in Nairobi. We apologise for any inconvenience incurred because of this,” said Michael Thuita, CEO of AWWDA.
The water shortage has affected areas such as Waiyaki Way, Naivasha road, Kangemi, Lavington, Westlands, Parklands, and others.
