On May 11, 2020, a Jubilee Coalition Parliamentary group meeting at State House led to the replacement of Kipchumba Murkomen as Senate Majority Leader by West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio.
Murkomen and Kihika, however, argue that they were not invited to the meeting and have written to the Speaker of the Senate to notify him that they did not attend alongside 20 other Senators.
They term the removal as a joke, citing that Standing Orders were not followed in removing the Majority Leader and Whip.
According to Article 32 of the Jubilee Party Constitution, a NEC meeting is required to ratify a coalition, which never happened in this case.
Murkomen and Kihika have vowed to continue performing their duties, stating that any attempt to remove them must be done in accordance with the law.
They also expressed their support for the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Deputy President, urging the President to work amicably with the DP.
