May 11, 2020 - China's latest effort to combat the novel coronavirus involves deploying temperature-tracking bracelets in five Beijing districts for middle school students.
As part of the country's high-tech approach to tracking population exposure, thermal cameras have been installed in public areas, and most places require individuals to show an app with green, yellow, and red ratings indicating their infection risk based on travel history.
The temperature-tracking bracelets, which provide real-time data, are monitored by schools and parents via an app, according to the Beijing Daily.
"The bracelet is similar to a normal fitness tracker... We recommend that students wear them 24 hours a day," an unnamed teacher told the Beijing Daily.
If a student's temperature rises above 37.2 degrees, the bracelet will prompt the teacher to alert the police, the state-run Beijing News reported.
China has gradually reopened schools across the country with extra health and safety measures as it transitions back to normal life.
