On May 9, 2020, a tragic incident occurred in Umoja, Nairobi, where a 29-year-old woman, Vigilance Shighi, allegedly stabbed her 33-year-old boyfriend, Edward Okello, to death.
According to police records, the couple had a disagreement over food, which escalated into a violent confrontation. Shighi is accused of knifing Okello in the chest eight times.
Okello, who worked as an aeronautical engineer at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
Police have recovered a kitchen knife believed to have been used as the murder weapon and a pool of blood in Okello's living room.
Shighi is expected to appear in court on Monday, May 11, 2020, as police seek more time to hold her and investigate the incident.
Neighbours reported that the couple had been fighting in their house in the past months, and Shighi has claimed that she acted in self-defense after Okello beat her up.
