President Uhuru Kenyatta has summoned Jubilee senators for a crucial Senate Parliamentary Group Meeting, scheduled for Monday morning at State House, Nairobi.

The meeting, which is expected to start at 8am, is believed to be aimed at sacking Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Majority Whip Susan Kihika, who are seen as critics of the President.

According to party insiders, the meeting is the President's final push to put his allies in strategic positions in Parliament.

President Kenyatta, in his capacity as the party leader, sent a text message to senators inviting them to the meeting, which will start at 8.30am on Monday morning.

"I invite you for a Jubilee Coalition, Senate Parliamentary Group meeting at State House," the text message read.

The party has not held a Parliamentary Group meeting since the 2017 General Election, and lawmakers allied to Deputy President William Ruto have been calling for the meeting to discuss the challenges facing the ruling party.

One of the issues that has been causing tension is the March 2018 handshake between President Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga, which was not communicated to the party.
