On May 11, 2020, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed launched a 100 million shillings fund to cushion Kenyan artistes during the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking at the launch of the project dubbed Together at Home, Amina Mohammed stated that the funds will support the artists in the next three months, as most of them can no longer access venues where they could earn a living.
She emphasized the need for due diligence in the disbursement of the funds.
The launch came weeks after President Uhuru Kenyatta directed the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage to set aside Kshs.100 million to cushion local artistes from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the President, the fund will enable artistes, actors, and musicians to continue entertaining the public through TV, radio, and the internet.
